  • For the 2024 - 2025 school year, Sakaw School is full in planned classes in Grades 1, 3 and 5 in the regular program. We will now only accept resident students in Grades 1, 3 and 5 whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have newly moved into the school’s attendance area for the regular program. A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic. Non-resident students can enroll in another Division school with space in planned classes.

  • APPLE Schools can help students learn, establish, and maintain patterns of nutrition and physical activity that help keep their bodies healthy. Well-planned and effectively implemented school wellness programs can help students to achieve greater mental and physical health. At Sakaw School, we are committed to promoting a healthy school environment by supporting and emphasizing student mental wellness, good nutrition, and regular physical activity.

The consumption of gum, candy, soft drinks and "junk food" is not encouraged in the school or on the playground. We encourage parents to support our efforts and not include such foods in students’ lunches.‌

Principal's Message

It is my sincere honour and privilege to be the Principal of Sakaw School.  Together with our staff team, students, family, and community we provide a welcoming, inspiring, and supportive learning environment.  We support students and families to ensure a successful and safe learning environment for all.

As part of our work towards reconciliation we ask that you join us to learn to pronounce our school name correctly:  Sakâw or ᓴᑳᐤ is pronounced : “sah-gow” according to Plains cree phonetics and spelling.  The translation means bushes, a forest or a wooded area.

At Sakaw: Everyone Belongs and Everyone Grows.  We see examples of this every day and look forward to celebrating our belonging and growth over the whole school year.

I encourage you to reach out to the school office team with any questions you may have.

Yours in partnership,

Mrs. Elizabeth Fraser

Principal
