    Registration for 2018-2019

    Pre-Kindergarten Screening
Pre-Kindergarten supports children who have a first language other than English or mild, moderate or severe days in their development. In March, Edmonton Public Schools hold screening sessions for families to find out if their children are eligible for the upcoming school year. Please call Sakaw School office in February for information about screening for 2018-2019 Pre-Kindergarten placement. [No new placements can be made for the remainder of this school year.]

    Kindergarten Registration
We will begin accepting Kindergarten Registrations from February 1, 2018.  Parents are advised to register early and indicate their preference for AM or PM classes; we do our best but we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate preferences.  Sakaw School's Kindergarten Open House Information Session is on Monday, April 9, 2018 from 6 to 7 p.m.  Parents of Sakaw kindergarten students will be contacted in late August/early September to be given a staggered entry orientation timeslot.  Staggered entry orientations will run on Tuesday, September 4Wednesday, September 5, and Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7, 2018.  The first day of kindergarten with regular times will be on Monday, September 10, 2018.  [Children who are in an Edmonton Public School Pre-Kindergarten class will register for Kindergarten using SchoolZone Pre-Enrolment between March 12 and April 16, 2018.]

    Grade 1 to 6 Registration
New students to Edmonton Public Schools will need to come to the Sakaw School office to complete a district registration form and provide proof of address and child's identification in order to register at Sakaw for Grades 1 to 6 for the 2018-2019 school year. For any current Edmonton Public Schools students, parents will sign in to SchoolZone between 9 a.m.on March 12 and 4 p.m. on April 16, 2018 to select your child's preferred school for the 2018-2019 school year.  [Go to "Next Year" tab in SchoolZone.]

Principal's Message

Sakaw School has just under 400 students in total with students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 to 6.  Our school mission statement is, "Leaders Know the Way, Go the Way, and Show the Way."  Our staff hold high expectations for themselves and for our students to pursue academic and personal development.  We are committed to ensuring our school and our classrooms are safe, welcoming, and caring.  In order for students to achieve growth and success in their studies, we target critical learner outcomes and we use a variety of teaching and learning strategies.  Our staff collaborate to determine the best classroom and school-wide strategies to help students learn.  We work to build relationships and foster communication with our parents, families, and community, and we welcome school volunteers, parent feedback, and community partners.  To help our Learners of Today become the Leaders of Tomorrow, we need our collective wisdom to do great things.  "Alone we are smart. Together, we are brilliant." [Steven Anderson]

Everyday I look forward to supporting our staff to creatively and effectively meet the needs of each one of our unique and capable students.
