It is with a great deal of pleasure that we welcome you to the new school year. Sakaw School is developing a tradition of excellence in all areas of learning, and it is a pleasure to welcome you as a member of our school population.
Sakaw School is an elementary school located in southeast Edmonton. It was opened in the fall of 1980 with the official opening date of May 22, 1981.
The school borders a large park site that has a number of upgraded baseball and soccer fields. A community league ice rink is adjacent to the school and an adventure playground is located close by. The school serves students from a varied family and ethnic diversity. The area is composed of single family homes, multiple family units, and small apartments. There is a small strip mall with after-school care within walking distance.
Sakaw School serves a broad range of students needs and is a designated site for a Mild Mental Disability Program in addition to providing regular K - 6 programming. Students from Kindergarten to year six may attend Sakaw School. Edmonton Public School Board has an open boundary policy which permits a student to attend any school within the system.
First priority at any school is given to those students living within a specific attendance area and then, if facilities and staffing patterns permit, other students are accommodated. Our attendance boundaries are from 50 Street to 66 Street and Mill woods Road South to 10 Avenue.
Successful operation of a school requires the cooperation and understanding of everyone concerned: teachers, students, and parents. As citizens of Sakaw School, students will face both the problems and benefits of life in a small community. Each of us is responsible for doing our part to make it the type of community in which we can live and work together in harmony. We must learn to respect the strengths and weaknesses of others, to communicate our wishes and intentions to each other and to carry out our responsibilities by doing our tasks to the best of our abilities. |
